Black is the color of my true love's hair

The start of the new year is always a little slow for my shop so I like to take this time to create new items and play around with other things. I've been experimenting with my artistic side lately, but using my usual medium of sewing and leather. First up is a piece of my bebe, Tsuru, entitled "Black is the color of my true love's hair", after the Nina Simone song (we love us some Nina). The face was hand drawn onto cotton canvas fabric, from one of his many self portrait photographs, and then I stitched it free-handed on my sewing machine. Next was the hair, which was individually hand-cut heart-shaped pieces out of leather, then glued to the fabric. Plop the whole thing into a frame and voila!

I've got another art piece in the works which I'm hoping to finish up this weekend or next. It's nice taking a little break and step outside my comfort level.

That's right another new item! This time a flashy penguin! He's found a home in my shop here, and you can adopt him now. =)

So I'd like to try to keep track of the books I read in a year. Let's see how this goes. I'm not much on reviews so I've adopted by husband's system, but instead of wheelies, I've used Matilda (the voracious reader from one of my childhood fave's, Roald Dahl)! My mother-in-law bought me this for Christmas, and while I started it at the end of 2009, I finished it in 2010, so here it is!
